History
Collegio G Cardano is a public University College opened in 1974 following transformation of the Hall of Residence Brichetti, opened in 1962 and initially intended to accommodate foreign students from African countries. The College is located on the left bank of river Ticino and was renovated and completed in the early 1980s. The building currently houses 120 male and female students from a variety of Italian regions and foreign countries.
For over thirty years, Collegio Cardano is home to the Rowing College of the Italian Rowing Federation and lists numerous world and olympic champions among its alumni and alumnae. Access to the College is through a public competition that takes place on a yearly basis according to rules published by EdISU (Ente per il Diritto allo Studio) Pavia.
Mission
The purpose of a public University College such as Cardano is to enable capable and deserving students to access to Higher Education, regardless of their financial means.
A further mission of the College is to forge in the students a strong set of human and social values that will nurture a sense of citizenship and civil responsibility.
In order to achieve this goal, the College encourages and promotes :
( i) internal mentoring activities in which older students help younger ones to face and overcome the initial difficulties of their course of study ;
( ii) debates and discussions on current topics , both scientific, social and cultural also in collaboration with other Colleges ;
( iii) the involvement of its students in the management of the College itself
