Fratelli Cairoli College – Merit College

Founded by Joseph II of Austria in 1781 and opened in 1782 as the Germanic-Hungarian College for theology students using the unfinished building of the Convent of St. Francis. Closed by General Bonaparte in 1796, it became barracks and remained so until 1947 when the Demanio Militare gave it to the University of Pavia so that it could return as a College. It was inaugurated on November 4, 1948 under the name Collegio Fratelli Cairoli.


As of 2019, Cairoli Brothers College is recognized as a “University College of Merit” under Article 16 of Legislative Decree no. 68/2012.


It is headed by Prof. Andrea Zatti, professor of finance science.

Cairoli Brothers College is a boys’ college.
